Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, is located on the right bank of the Red River (see the map of Vietnam). It is considered the cultural and tourist center in Vietnam due to the many interesting cultural and historical attractions, being visited yearly by millions of holiday makers.

At the beginning of 20th century, the city consisted of only 36 streets, that are now part of the old quarter. On each street are merchants specialized in a particular trade, such as silk traders, jewelers, etc. Nowaday the street names reflect these specializations, although few of them remained exclusively in their original commerce. The area is famous for the small artisans and merchants, including many silk shops.
In the Old Quarter can be found also numerous restaurants with local cuisine as well as several clubs and bars. A night market in the heart of the district is opened every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with a large variety of clothing, souvenirs, and food.
- West Lake is a popular spot for people who want to take a walk, picnic, meet friends, etc. It is the largest lake in Hanoi and on its shores are settled many Buddhist temples. Tourists find there small boats to hire and even a floating restaurant.
